FONDATION CARTIER “ A BEAUTIFUL ELSEWHERE ” OPENING CEREMONY

In April of 2018, Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain held their “A Beautiful Elswhere” exhibition at The Power Station of Art in Shanghai. As their first major exhibition in China, Fondation Cartier displayed a series of iconic artworks from their collection comprising the work of over 30 artists. In addition to showcasing the work of artists like Raymond Depardon, Cai Guoqiang, Huang Yongping, and Kitano Takeshi, the exhibition featured close interaction with the French scientific vessel “Tara” to commemorate the start of its first sailing in China. The exhibition served not only to introduce the Fondation Cartier’s philosophy, mission, and artistic principles, but also encouraged artistic imagination and social conscious-ness. Liquid Impact was trusted with producing a comprehensive opening ceremony to launch the exhibition that included a gala dinner, simultaneous multi-language translation, and a 5 day-long forum with artists consisting of multiple talks and Q&A sessions. The highlight of the event was the transformation of the outdoor terrace into an artistic gala dinner venue and cocktail area. For this we created a transparent tent that we combined with projection, lighting design, and bamboo to create a dynamic artistic space that fit Fondation Cartier’s overall theme. The tent had to be built to withstand the heavy winds along the Huangpu River and completed within a relatively short load-in window. As lead agency, Liquid Impact managed concurrent VIP tours, interviews, meetings, banquets, and rehearsals along with production and coordinating with the Power Station of Art. The result was a great success and made a perfect start to a three-month exhibition.
